01/01/2007 - Fireworks
I added a new photo gallery from New Years Eve.  We shot off some fireworks in Jessica's backyard, and I had to bring out the camera.

01/02/2007 - A Message for Bridgette and Vida
Bridgette and Vida,
If you're reading this, you've found the right place.  Nice meeting you tonight.  You caught me at a time where I'm transitioning this site over to my photography site so it'll take me just a little extra time to process your pictures, but as soon as they're finished I'll give you a call and post a link on this webpage.  If you have any questions in the mean time you can call me at 361-815-3865 or email me at HollisMiles@gmail.com.  The pictures should be up sometime on Wednesday or Thursday. Thanks.

01/05/2007 - Basketball Wallpaper
I've walked into a small partnership with Aggiefans.com.  I'm going to be providing pictures, and they'll provide the hosting and design of a few basketball wallpapers, and maybe other sports throughout the year.  We'll use them for advertisement for our sites.  Here are the first two.  What do you think?

01/07/2007 - Surgery Tomorrow
I'm having surgery tomorrow to fix a sports hernia that I've had for at least a few months now.  I'm glad the injury is finally going to get fixed.  The hernia hasn't been fun, but neither will the surgery I guess.  I hear that I'll be unable to move around very much for at least a few days and not fully recovered for about six weeks or so.

I'll be ready for those six weeks to go by so that I can finally lift weights again.  I haven't been able to since I got it....so wish me luck.  I'm sure I'll get on here and talk about it when I spend all that time in bed and on the computer.  I just hope I don't miss the national championship tomorrow because of the anesthesia.

01/09/2007 - My Remote Control Broke
And what a day for it to break.  I woke up at 3:15 this morning needing to take two more Advil and a pain pill.  One problem, I can't take the pain pill on an empty stomach.  It took me about 30 minutes to get out of bed, walk into the kitchen, warm up my food, and get back.  Of course the food was cold by the time I got back to my bed, but it was still pretty good.

On my journey back to my bed, I turned the tv on to ESPN to catch the recap of the national championship game (I fell asleep around half time I think).  It took a little while to get back into bed, then I realized that my remote control for the tv is broken.  After four years of using this $99 Wal-Mart TV, the remote decides to break on the day I need it the most.  Now I'm watching sports center for the 5th time in 2.5 hours...I can't even turn the volume down.  Poor me.  HaHa.

Surgery sucks, I'm bruised in places I'd hope to never see bruised, and I look like I've gained about fifteen pounds because of all the swelling....even in my face, which is weird.

Don't worry about me...I'll feel like a new man in about 15 minutes when this medicine kicks in.  Want to go for an early morning run?

01/13/2007 - Off of the Pain Pills and Out of Bed
It was a fun and exciting week, but I guess it has to come to an end some time.  I got out of bed yesterday for good (at least when I'm not sleeping), and I did my best not to take any pain pills.  During the middle of the day I had a little sneezing attack that tested my will on holding out, but I stayed strong and kept the pills in the bottle.

Coughing and sneezing still hurts pretty bad, but I'm sure it'll stay that way until I get these staples out (11 just below my waist line).  I was thinking about taking a picture of the wound just so I'll remember how it looks.  Either way, I'm doing fine in case anyone was wondering.

Chris made it back into town yesterday, and he brought a new roommate.  Adam, Justin, Chris and I are still here...Lilly and Touche' are too, and now Lilly has a new friend named Diesel.  He's a boxer, and our third dog in the house.  I'll get some pics up as soon as I take them.

01/13/2007 - This is Crazy to Me
I have something called a ClustrMap that Maps all of the visitors that visit my site by location...Here is a copy of that map.

I can understand people visiting from the U.S. I can even see where the occasional Canadian could make it to the site (I don't even know where they found me). But here's a list of countries that have also visited my site...

The United Kingdom
The Netherlands
Germany
Poland
Spain
Russia
Qatar
China
One of the Korea's (probably South Korea, but it's close on the map)
Australia
South Africa
Algeria

I can maybe see where I'd get the occasional straggler from another country, but that's a large list. Where are these people coming from?  If you're one of these visitors from another country, let us know who you are.  Post a comment and say Hi, Howdy, Guten Tag, or whatever it is that you say.

01/15/2007 - School Canceled
I was 100% surprised when I woke up from my afternoon nap to hear that school has been canceled for tomorrow.  Now don't get me wrong,  I love that I have an extra day to get things organized and cleaned up before going back to school and work, but it's just weird to me that it's canceled.

I'm from South Texas.  We don't have ice days, although I used to hear rumors about them when I was a little kid.  I'd always hear about my cousins from the San Antonio area who got to stay home on the cold days.  In fact, they'd have "snow days" worked into their schedule so they wouldn't even miss out on anything.

I guess this is what it's like north of south Texas....and I'm cool with it (pun intended)

01/17/2007 - First Day of (no) Class
Classes start back up today at noon, but not for me.  I just happen to have Wednesday afternoons off this semester...at least so far.  Doesn't mean that today isn't going to be a busy one.

I'm applying for a photography job over at the Battalion.  If I get the job I'm going to try and successfully hold three jobs at the same time.  I still have my web job over at GERG (www.gerg.tamu.edu). I have the photography business that I'm trying to get rolling (not really a paying job).  And I'll hopefully be a photographer for the Batt trying to gain some more experience.

I also need to meet with my counselor today to get my schedule finalized...I know it's last minute, but we got hung up on a few things before Christmas (like my grades).  Hopefully I'll be able to set up the schedule right so that I can work during the day too.

This is about the time where my mom is going to chime in and say something about studying....well, I'll bet that I learn more this semester than I do in any other semester during my entire college career....and I'm here to learn, not study.  I'm half-way kidding.  My classes will get taken care of, but this stuff is important too.  I gotta find out what I'm going to do with the rest of my life during the next 8 months of it.  As always, if you have any suggestions about which direction I should head, send me a comment.

P.S.  If you're the praying type (or even if you're not) send some prayers over in this direction.  Jessica has a family friend that could use them after learning about some bad cancer news.

01/19/2007 - Don't Bother Me On Saturday
Don't Bother Me On Saturday...I'm giving you a warning now.  I'll be sitting in front of the tv for half of it..then I'll be running over to Reed for the other half.

The US Men's National Soccer Team plays it's first game since last year's World Cup against Denmark at 3:50pm on ESPN2.  This should be a good game, with a young team and a new coach.  I know that there are a few soccer fans that hang out here.  You might enjoy this game.

Tomorrow night our Basketball team is gonna beat the hell outta oklahoma state.  This game has the possibility of being our biggest win of the season so far.  The turn out was better than great on Thursday morning, and the game is completely sold out.   Check out these pics from the pull taken from "the12thmanchild.com"

4,200 students tickets were pulled in less than 2 hours.  I got my eight.  See ya at the game.

01/22/2007 - Another Sell Out
It's a good time to be an Aggie here in College Station.  Our basketball team is fun to watch and they've snuck up to what I think will be a #6 ranking when this afternoon's polls come out.  This morning was also the second day in a row that the student allotment of tickets disappeared within the first hour or so.  So it's official, the Oklahoma game will be another sell out.

This is all coming at the perfect time too....my senior year.  I grew up an Aggie, looking forward to the time when I could come to school here and see my Aggies win.  It didn't happen until this year....but I sure am enjoying it now.

We need to get through tech this week and then Oklahoma on this Saturday to stay on top of the Big 12 on our own.

In other news, I'm headed over to CC Creations today to make a few shirts and maybe some business cards for the photography business.  Every good business needs a t-shirt right?  I don't know how many I'm going to print up...maybe 10-20?   Anyone out there have any interest in wearing a Hollis Miles Photography t-shirt?

I also had my first class of the semester this morning.  It's a leadership class that I might actually learn something from (weird right?).  That class got me thinking again about how much of a waste of time our current school system is...It's something that needs to be fixed.  I don't have time to get into it again now (I'm a busy guy), but if you want to read an old article of mine on the subject...click here.  I'll probably write again on the subject sometime this week.

01/25/2007 - Cool Story
Someone emailed me yesterday out of the blue asking how my surgery went.  He wanted to know certain things about how I picked the type of surgery to have, what the recovery was like, and whether I was put out or not.  No big deal...I answered his questions without hesitation and just happened to ask who he was and how he knew about my surgery....I figured I knew him from one of the message boards that I post on since I probably talked about it on there.

His response surprised me a little.  He did a Google search on "sports hernia surgery".  In his results was my website.  He clicked and found my post where I talked about my surgery.  He then found my email and decided he would ask me a few questions.

I was cool answering all the questions he had to ask, but that's not the point of the story.  What I'm amazed at, is how he found my site.  How cool is it that he found my blog where he could ask me whatever he wanted through email about the surgery?  The internet is a pretty powerful thing, and I don't think many of us realize what all you can do with it.

I never would've expected something like this to happen when I started this site last May.  Label me as surprised.  It's stuff like this that makes me believe that the internet will continue to grow and become something even more amazing in the near future.  It will turn into something that we can't even imagine right now. It's going to be cool to see all of it happen in our lifetime.
