09/03/2006 - "Crikey!" Steve Irwin Dies
Steve Irwin, aka The Crocodile Hunter, died today from a sting-ray barb to the chest. Here's a link to the article.

Who would've thought that the man who wrestled "Crocs" and had numerous run ins with deadly snakes would die from a sting-ray?

Sad story, but I guess he died doing what he loved.

09/04/2006 - I Want a Camera
I told myself a long time ago that I would start to save money during college to get ahead when I graduate and get out into the real world. Well, saving money really means not spending money...and the best way to "not spend money" is to only buy the things you NEED and not the things you WANT.

Trying to seperate my wants from my needs has become one of the toughest things for me to do lately....you see there's this camera (the Canon 20D for all of you photography fans). I've had my eye on it for a little over a year now. Jessica's dad and Justin's dad both have one like it, so I know first hand that it is what I want....but that's the problem, it's a want. Not really a need.

I spend a little bit of each day thinking of all the cool pictures I could take with what could be my camera. I would capture all the stupid little things we do at the house on the 8.3 megapixel digital "film" then post them on the internet for the world to see. Even you, whoever the hell reads this page, would get some use out of it by seeing some of my photographic masterpieces. I could even take it to all the Aggie sporting events that I'm at so I could document my college career (and the women's soccer run to the national championship).

This wasn't a problem a few months ago. I knew I could not buy one then, because I had to save up (for a long time)for Jessica's engagement ring. Of course that was totally worth it (wink), but now I need to have my goals set on another future purchase so that I'll save instead of spend. Smart Hollis would put it away towards a down payment on a house. I could be a proud home owner in just a couple years. But then no one would be able to see pictures of my house on the internet...

I wouldnt have a camera

09/05/2006 - Fighting Words
Even if you are not a soccer fan you probably heard the news or saw the video a few months back about Zinedine Zidane, a French soccer player, and his head butt of an opponent in the World Cup Final.

If you are not familiar with it or have forgotten, let me give you a little refresher. In the final minutes of the world cup between France and Italy, Zinedine Zidane, a French forward (maybe the best in the world) lost his cool and head butted an Italian player in the chest prompting immediate ejection from the World Cup Final (bigger than the Super Bowl, World Series, and NBA Finals put together). Eventually his team lost on Penalty Kicks and Italy became world champions.

For months no one knew what set Zidane off and made him go crazy on the biggest sports stage in the World at the most critical moment.

Apparently, someone said something about his sister.

That's right, all it took to get the best player on the French soccer team out of the World Cup Final was to make a comment, and a pretty funny one, about his sister. The conversation went a little like this...

(note: it is common to exchange jerseys after a soccer match as a sign of sportsmanship)

Zidane: "if you want my shirt I will give it you afterwards"
Italian player: "I'd rather have your sister"
Zidane: "Bam" (head butts Italian player)
Ref: "See ya"

Now, no offense to my sisters, Jennifer and Teresa, but if some Italian told me that they'd rather have my sister than my jersey during the WORLD CUP FINAL, I'd be more worried about how I'm going to score the next goal than "defending the honor" of my sisters.

Good job Italians on your win.

Stupid French.

09/08/2006 - Tailgate this weekend
Well, I just got back from Kyle field and setting up our tailgate for the game this weekend. Everyone is welcome to come out and join us. We should have plenty of room. You will need to bring a chair, some food and some drinks if you are wanting them. We will probably not have enough food or drink for everyone...but we'll have plenty of space. Go to Spence Park and look for the state of Texas Flag design on the top of Kelsey and Clint's tent. Come join us.

Click here for a map to see where our tailgate is.

09/11/2006 - That was a busy weekend
What a crazy and tiring weekend. I'm still trying to catch up on my sleep.

We started our weekend on Saturday morning at the tailgate in Spence park. Our spot, the food, and the people were about as good as it gets. It was good to see everyone there. I hope we can repeat it all in a couple weeks. If you didn't make it, be sure to come to the next one. Everyone is invited.

The game after the tailgate was good too. We beat up on ULaLa 51-7. I think our team looked great all around, and I'm excited to see what the Aggies can do against tech in a few weeks.

As soon as the game was over, we ran down to the tailgate to pick up my tent and a few chairs to begin camping out at the zone for the weekend for t.u. tickets. If you've never camped out you'd probably be surprised about how fun it really is. I was kinda dreading it the day we started....but we ended up having a great time. Especially after getting all 23 of our seats in the first five rows of the stadium.

Our tickets won't end up being very good because we'll be in the endzone, but we'll have a great time at the game in Austin. Is it bad to hope for an upset?

09/14/2006 - I made something
Check it out guys, I made my first message board. As easy and simple as it may look, it actually took some work to get all of this together. It involved beginning to learn two new languages, and trying to get my boss to fix all of my mistakes, but it's not bad for my first time. Click here to go to the message board and post something so I can test it out, but keep it clean.

Hopefully, I'll be able to make some pretty cool stuff out of this new education of mine. There's definately improvement on the way.

09/15/2006 - It's Friday again
Whoop! It's Friday again which means we're about 24 hours away (actually 30 hours and 18 minutes) from another Aggie football game. This week the game is in San Antonio at the Alamodome. Half of us are leaving tonight to hopefully catch midnight yell near the Alamodome. The rest of us will be meeting the first group around lunch time at the riverwalk. Jess and I are in the first group.

I've been looking forward to this weekend for a while now. It'll be good to get out of College Station and see San Antonio again. Everyone be safe on the trip, and if you're going to be in S.A. for the game and would like to meet us on the riverwalk Saturday for some drinks and football, give me a call and join us.

There has been some discussion on whether or not we're supposed to yell to "Beat the hell outta Army" or Beat the hell outta the black knights". The reasoning behind this is to show respect for the Military Academies since we're at war and 9/11, etc. etc. I'm tired of all of this politically correct b.s. I say we keep it like it's supposed to be and "Beat the Hell Outta Army". Sure we'll treat them with respect off of the field, but they wear the name "Army" on their jersey. It doesn't say "Black Knights" on there. I've been to Aggie girls soccer games where we BTHO mexico and BTHO brazil. I even heard of a time where we played a U.S. national team and yelled BTHO USA. That's good bull. So I settled it. Discussion closed. BTHO army!!

If you haven't seen the temporary new message board, check it out by clicking here. I say temporary because I'm going to work on incorporating it into this page where someone can make comments about each of my posts. Keep checking back for those updates (but they may take a while...this is all new to me)

Alright, back to work on the website. Everyone drive safe, and no matter what the yell leaders tell you "Beat the Hell Outta Army!"

09/20/2006 - I'm Tired
It's hump day of this fantastic week (sarcasm), and I'm half way done with my tests. Two down Two to go. Out of my six classes this semester, four of them decided to test me this week. I'm looking forward to a few beers on Friday after work to clear my head and relax. If anyone else out there is in the same or similar situation as me this week, or if you'd just like to comfort those of us that are busy, come by the house on Friday at about 5:30. Your first beer will be on me.

09/27/2006 - Huge Tailgate this weekend
I've had alot of people ask me about the tailgate this weekend, so I'm going to go ahead and let everyone know about it right now....

Tomorrow, I'm going to Spence Park to our usual spot at around 12:30 to rope off our area. We'll be having two very large grills (trailer size) that will be taking up alot of room. So what I'm going to do is rope of two sites right next to eachother so we don't get alot of crap from other people about our huge site. One of the sites will have Logan's Dad's trailer...the other will have Ryan's Dad's trailer.

I'll need someone's help on Thursday afternoon to set up tents at around 5:00pm. If you know of anyone that has a tent for us to use, let me know.

The trailers will go out on Friday. Hopefully everything goes as planned, but if not, I'll let you know.

Game starts at 2:30pm so get to the tailgate early...and come back after the game to celebrate.

09/28/2006 - Finished with First Round of Tests, More Tailgating Info, and Soccer
I took the last of my first round of tests today. 5 tests in 8 days will wear you out no matter how little you study (believe me). So I'm a little tired today, but that didn't keep me from driving by Spence Park on the way home from class on the motorcycle....and I'm glad I did.

Apparently more people like to tailgate for a nearly sold out conference game than they do for a non-conference game with La. Tech. I noticed it this morning, and had just enough time to meet up with Chris, run to Academy to buy some 29cent tent stakes and rope, and head back up to Spence Park with the dogs to rope off the final two large spots on Houston Street.

We were bumped down a few feet from our usual spot, but not enough to make a big deal. We set up the tents in our area, and they're all ready for the huge BBQ Pit Trailers to pull in tomorrow.

I've been informed that there will be alot of meat brought in by the parents, but if you have a certain type of food that you'd like to eat bring it by Saturday morning to be cooked.

Like always it's BYOB...but we could possibly have a keg this time. I'm waiting to hear from Ryan about it. If we do have a keg and you're planning on drinking out of it, BRING MONEY to help offset some of the costs of buying it. Pitch in $5 or so to keep one person from having to pay for it all.

Other than that, all you'll need to bring is a few chairs, and be ready to have a good time. Most of us will be up there pretty early, so come out and join us before and after the game.

As always, Here's a Map to help you find the place.

If it seems like all that I ever do is go to school, work, and tailgate for football games, you're pretty much right on. There isn't much else to it besides the occasional online poker game, and watching the soccer girls tear it up on the field.

Last night I took a study break to watch the girls beat #18 ranked Oklahoma State 3 to 1 to climb to 4-0 in the Big 12 and 7-3-1 overall. They're doing well this year, and should finish strong to win the Big 12.

I'm getting pumped about the tech game this weekend. Other than the tailgate, we'll be sporting the all maroon hair in our first row second deck seats this week. Those who can't make the game, look for us on TV. We've been on the Jumbotron 3 or 4 times already this year, and that was without the hair....maybe this week we'll make ABC.
